I recently decided to start writing my girls yearly letters on their birthdays, documenting what's happened in the past year, dreaming of the future, and expressing my love for them. Yesterday, my sweet baby turned one. Here is the letter I wrote to her. Also, Merry Christmas, readers! Enjoy your families today.
I can't believe it's been a year since you came into our lives. This year really has flown by... You came at the most inconvenient time... it was the dead of winter, we were in between houses, you came two weeks early and two days before Christmas. But the moment I held you, everything was perfect. You were exactly what we needed, that day, and every one since.
I now realize that maybe God gave you to us right before Christmas so that we would "pause and reflect" -- which is what your name means -- on the true meaning of Christmas: that God came to earth as a little baby, like you, to give us a way back to Him.
You have been the sweetest, most lovable baby since day one. I have always loved cuddling you and squeezing your chubby cheeks and legs. For the most part, you have also been a good sleeper. And after what I went through with your sister, that was welcome relief!
You have grown so fast and are so smart. You started walking at 10 1/2 months, already say a bundle of words and now are practically running around the house. You love your big sister! You follow her everywhere, play, laugh and watch plenty of shows with her. You two also have your share of fights! But before you were even a year old, you could already hold your own!
Selah, you have been such a joy for us, as well as for your grandparents, aunts, uncles and even your great aunts and uncles. You really do light up a room. You have such a cute personality and since you were just a few months old, you have always been SMILING!
After having one child, I was anxious to see how my heart could grow for another, but oh, did it! My love for you was instant and gradual. I loved you abundantly and unconditionally at first sight, but my love has grown each and every day since. Our family would have been incomplete without you, and we couldn't feel more blessed to have had you, such a sweet sweet bundle of joy, in our lives for the last year.
We love you, Selah Bear. Happy, happy birthday.
