Our Trip to Meet Steve Harvey

Well, we are back from Chicago. As you've probably heard by now, Tyler didn't win the "Hottest Husband in America" Contest at the Steve Harvey Show. Personally, I think he was robbed... but I'll let you watch the show and judge for yourself ;) (We still don't know the air date yet.)

We arrived in Chicago around 4 p.m. Monday (after a flight that was delayed 2 hours).

riding to the hotel from the airport
It was snowing in Chicago when we landed, and it did on and off throughout our trip. It is definitely FREEZING there. We noticed the temperature drop from the minute we stepped off the plane.

We stayed at the Hyatt on the Magnificent Mile. It was a gorgeous place.

I had asked, the night before on Facebook, for suggestions of things to do in Chicago. Unfortunately, we had time for none of it. By the time we settled into our hotel, it was dinnertime, and that's about all we had time for. We ate at the famous, Giordano's, (which was one of the recommendations!), and it totally lived up to the hype. I didn't get any pictures, but this Chicago-style pizza was AWESOME. I'm talking inches deep of fatty goodness.

After that, we walked back to the hotel and ended up getting a call from the show that they wanted to come over and take a few more photos of Tyler. Including shirtless photos, I might add. To say he was less than excited about this would be the understatement of the year. But thankfully, the associate producers that came over were young, laid back and super friendly. They immediately made us feel comfortable.

After a quick, informal photo shoot, we hit the sack. We were EXHAUSTED from traveling.

The next morning we were supposed to be up and outside our hotel waiting for our ride to the studio at 9:45 a.m. But our morning didn't go as planned... For no apparent reason other than the ungodly amount of pizza I ate the night before I woke up with extreme stomach cramps. I told Tyler, it felt like I was in labor. And it did. I have no idea what was going on, but I ended up puking a couple times (TMI ?) before the cramps finally eased up and went away.

[[remember that other time I randomly got sick?]]

After spending an hour with severe stomach pain, I didn't think there was anyway we'd be ready to go by the scheduled time. But somehow, we rushed around like crazy (and our ride was late arriving!) and we made it just fine.

We were so excited when a LIMO arrived to pick us up!
Chicago's NBC Studios
I thought the whole "TV" experience was really neat. We got to see how things work behind the scenes and be a part of the action. And I got my hair and make-up done by professional artists... I kind of felt like I was living every girl's dream. Ha :)

hair and make-up time!

Look at these amazing lashes they gave me! Ha.
Our segment on the show happened so fast. I had powder brushed on my legs, we were rushed on stage, and before I knew it, confetti was blowing everywhere and the wrong guy was wearing a crown. And if you're wondering if we're good buddies with Steve Harvey now, the answer is no. The interaction you see between us on the show is the only that there was. He's a busy guy, I hear.

Oh, one other tidbit I forgot to mention... the morning OF the show, the producer informs us they've decided to have the guys take off their shirts on stage :| Until this point, we've been told all along that that's not happening. In case you don't know by now, Tyler is not the strut-your-stuff kind of guy, so he is completely uncomfortable with this.... we just wanted you to know that wasn't part of the plan!

In the end, I thought it was a fun trip. A memorable experience, at least. I'm still bummed we didn't get the free trip to Aruba (the grand prize), but we did walk away with a $500 consolation prize. Not too shabby. Like I said, we still don't know the air date, but as soon as I do, I'll post on my Facebook page. Please watch. (And say nothing to Tyler about it because he's still terribly embarrassed), but please let me know if you too think he was robbed ;)

  1. Congrats! I am sure you had a blast. I love Chicago and you ate at my favorite pizza place. I can't wait to see the show.
