Made to Worship

Last week I helped with Bible School at my parents' church for close to the 10th year in a row. For me, Bible School is one of the most anticipated events of the year. There is nothing quite like gathering 60+ kids and watching them learn about and praise God at such influential and developmental stages.

This was Eden's third Bible School (that she could actually participate in) and Selah's first, and of course, they loved it. They loved the crafts, the games, the snacks, the friends, but most of all, they loved the songs. Every year my mom and I lead the songs, which include super fun, kid-friendly motions. We have so much fun teaching the kids and leading them in praise to the Lord. And every year I find myself singing the Bible School songs over and over and over -- sometimes for months on end! Not only are the songs always catchy, but they have such good messages. I honestly feel spiritually revived during Bible School and in the days and weeks after, as I continue singing to myself the uplifting songs from the week.

One day last week we were watching the Bible School DVD at home, and the girls were singing the songs and doing the motions. And as I watched Eden from the other room, hands in the air, swinging them around, and singing her heart out -- it hit me.

We were made to worship.

Eden may be just three and Selah one, but nothing could be more natural than watching them praise the Lord. It seems so fitting, so appropriate, no matter their age. It reminds me of the words to one of Chris Tomlin's songs.

You and I were made to worship
You and I are called to love
You and I are forgiven and free
When you and I embrace surrender
When you and I choose to believe
Then you and I will see who we were meant to be

If you and I would embrace our purpose, like the children at Bible School, and praise the Lord with abandon, I believe we'd feel as happy and free as they do. Because worshippers, friends, is who we were meant to be.

Today, I'm happy to announce the winners of my "Be The Mom" Book Giveaway! Congratulations Tania Bush and Rachel Cunningham! I'll email you about claiming your prizes. I hope you enjoy this amazing book!
