How was your Fourth?
Ours started off quite differently than expected when we showed up at my aunt and uncle's house, where our family always gathers, and were told that the fire from the grill had blown up in my aunt's face. They rushed her to the hospital, but thankfully, she was ok. Her face and neck are burned and some of her hair was burned off, but it doesn't look like she is going to have any permanent scarring and she is recovering pretty well. We are so thankful for that!
Meanwhile some of our family stuck around and celebrated as best we could under the circumstances. We ate really good food, and then ate some more, and then ate some more. Fourth of July barbecue and side dishes and DESSERTS are about my favorite thing in the world. Oh another good thing -- Tyler was off on the Fourth for the first time in three years.
When we got home later that afternoon, we took a little nap, and when I woke up, I had this overwhelming urgency that it was GO TIME! We leave for family camp at Pine Cove Sunday, and with Fourth of July festivities out of the way, the only thing left between us and Sunday was about 1,000,000,000 things to do to get ready. Y'all. Getting a family of four ready to be gone for a whole week is a JOB. I've been considering this weekend the "storm before the calm" because there is so much to do and get done and then finally, hopefully, on Sunday we can drive away and truly relax for six whole days! Adding to the craziness was the fact that yesterday I had to take Selah to the doctor because I was convinced she had an ear infection and it's better to be safe than sorry (yay she didn't! boo to cutting molars!) AND I had to take our dog to the vet and then finally, about 7:00 I started packing.
Go ahead and get excited about the pictures-to-come of us wearing all these silly get-ups. Family Camp has theme nights every night!
This is where I'm at so far. Basically, I'm not even 1/4 of the way there. It's gonna be a full day of packing and loading today, but I'm excited about it because we are one step closer to being at Pine Cove! I'm just praying it's the true vacation everyone says it is. After this weekend, this Mama's gonna need it.
