How was your Christmas? If you're anything like us, you're still swimming in toys, eating left-overs, and perhaps, humming "Away in a Manger." Over the past week, that has become my kids' favorite tune. Selah refuses to listen to anything else in the car or for me to sing anything else at bedtime.
This time of year, many children learn the details of Christ's birth: His birth in a stable, being wrapped in swaddling cloths, and the shepherds near by. But this got me to thinking, do they know the rest of the story? The virgin birth is miraculous and powerful, but the significance of it is really because of what happens next -- Christ's atoning death and resurrection.
Today, I'm giving away another Tommy Nelson resource, a children's book called My Friend Jesus. I love this book because it gives the full story of Jesus. It is essentially the Gospel in a way that kids can understand. The story starts with the nativity, discusses Jesus' childhood, then His ministry and death on the cross, and then the resurrection and its implications for us.
I can honestly say that sitting down to read this book with Eden was one of the SWEETEST moments with her that I have ever had. In the midst of a busy life and a busy day, sitting down to talk about what really matters can do a mama's heart some good. And at the end of the book, there is an opportunity for your child to invite Jesus to be his/her own Savior and Lord. When I asked Eden if she might want to do that and make Jesus her friend, she told me that she already had. :-) How could I argue with that?!
This book is perfect for kids ages 5-10, though I easily adapted it for a four-year-old. To enter to win a copy, just leave a comment telling me why you'd like it. I'll announce a winner Wednesday, Jan. 1.
