My bathing suit lines and tender-to-the-touch shoulders tell me that summer is here. Full-fledged. The girls and I have been basking in it this week. Eden is finishing up her first full week of VBS, and we've had lunch dates and swim days with friends. There's something about the temperature rising and Steamboat Days being set up on the end of town that makes a small-town girl care-free and giddy.
Just like when I was a kid... I still love summer.
There's been a gray lining to the sun and smiles this week though. Daddy hasn't been here. We've spent less than 10 hours with him out of the last 96. When I'm trucking the girls to Bible School or getting them ice cream or working on our doggy paddle, in the back of my mind I'm thinking about him and how I know he wishes he was doing the same.
But this is the life we live, and though we're used to it, it still stinks... (mostly for him). He comes home today though for what will feel like a gloriously long yet unbelievably short stretch (2 days). So I plan for us all to enjoy it... After all, there are Carnies making funnel cakes and giving away bunny rabbits at the end of town. I can't think of a better time for a homecoming.
